How tirzepatide works
Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 / GIP dual receptor agonist. Taken once a week, it works with your body's own appetite and blood-sugar signals.
Feel full sooner
It slows how quickly food leaves your stomach, so meals keep you satisfied longer and portions naturally shrink.
Quiet the cravings
It acts on appetite centers in the brain, turning down hunger and the constant pull toward snacking.
Steadier blood sugar
It helps your body release insulin when blood sugar rises, which supports more stable energy through the day.
In the 72-week SURMOUNT-1 trial of FDA-approved tirzepatide (Zepbound), adults on the 15 mg dose lost an average of about 21% of their body weight alongside diet and exercise. Individual results vary, and compounded tirzepatide has not been studied in those trials. Tirzepatide works best alongside a reduced-calorie diet and regular activity.
Important safety information
Boxed warning: Tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodent studies. It is not known whether it causes thyroid tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma, in people. Do not use tirzepatide if you or any of your family have had medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and decreased appetite, most often while your dose is being increased. Serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney injury from dehydration, and severe allergic reactions. Stop and seek care right away for severe stomach pain, a lump in your neck, trouble swallowing or breathing, or signs of an allergic reaction.
Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy, or under 18. Tell your provider about every medication and condition during your visit. This is not a complete list of risks; your provider and the pharmacy will give you full medication information.
